That Was The Week That Was 23-27 May 2022
Eau de Aviation
Well, it has to be said that the throwaway line about the new Air France ad that seemed more for a perfume than an airline hit a nerve… Vodafone has also now released its own perfume. ‘5G Solitaire’ is flying through the air, smelling so wonderfully of videoconferencing that the aviation industry will have no choice but to follow immediately. And, credit where it is due, one reader then saw what I can only assume was not a typo, but an homage, from no less an authority than Eurocontrol itself. Eau de Aviation is A Thing. Look at this delightful reference from Eurocontrol’s Learning Zone. Who, we ask, who, does not like behind the scent details? This needs much more work!
The ideas for aviation-based perfumes could not stop themselves; they were rolling in.
Some suggested Cathay No5. One suggested that KLM could put out a scent called Canal No5, although another reader, noting that X is a current favourite naming convention with perfumes suggested KLM Canal X Sludge as a possibility. It perhaps goes without saying that this contributor is not Dutch.
Another noted that celebrity endorsements are very popular. How far away are we from Ryan Reynolds X Ryanair?
What about Panache from PanAm – a retro scent, perhaps a bit like Old Spice? J’adore Singapore by Dior? Paco Flight Ban, the new scent from Rabanne? Miss Swiss, the new Mademoiselle by Chanel?
You know as well as I do that by next Spring, in-flight duty free trolleys will be heaving under the weight of these new offerings. JetA1, however, only comes out as an aftershave.
Keep the suggestions coming in.
